Nail-biting history

Today, the Twins close their regular season with a chance to win the division. This is the second year in a row where their final game mattered in the pennant race. I haven't had time to research this completely, but from what I can remember, only two other teams have had a meaningful final regular season game two years in a row: the 1948-49 Red Sox and the 1950-51 Dodgers. Sadly, all four of those years ended badly for the teams listed. Here's hoping the Twins don't continue that trend.

And just because it's such a great moment, here's what happened to the Dodgers in 1951, exactly 58 years ago yesterday.
