Sporting events that end with you not having any idea what to think are always fun. I probably spend more time privately analyzing the games that confuse me than any straight up win or loss. Yesterday's Vikings game was a perfect example of that. The Vikings won 33-31, giving up 21 points in the 4th quarter and winning only because the Baltimore kicker missed a field goal on the final play.
So now the mixed feelings.
Good: The Vikings scored 33 points against one of the best defenses in the league
Bad: They had to settle for field goals three different times after long offensive plays got them inside the 10
Good: The defense played great for three quarters, especially against the run
Bad: The defense completely collapsed in the fourth, almost losing the game
Good: The offense didn't turn the ball over
Bad: The defense didn't get a turnover
Good: Part of the blame for the defensive collapse could be placed on the fact that Antoine Winfield left with an injury
Bad: The Winfield injury showed how perilous the Vikings' secondary depth is.
Good: The Vikings are 6-0.
Bad: ....
Well, there isn't really a bad counter to that. The Vikings are 6-0. It doesn't matter how a team gets to that point, just that they get there. I suppose if there's a negative to this, it's that they are going to be perceived as a legitimate to make it to the Super Bowl, and I'm never comfortable when they have lofty expectations. However, I'd rather be uncomfortable with expectations with my team sitting at 6-0 than angry and bitter at an underachieving 3-3 club.
